Dear Grabber,

Magic Bird Logo2.jpg

I’m not going to lie to you and pretend it hasn’t been a difficult couple of weeks. Bad news is available everywhere, coming at us from every direction, with so few silver linings on the horizon. But I made a decision (as both the editor of this modestly-attended blog, as a man, and as a person with a decent reputation as a bit of a ‘doomer’) not to be a part of that. It was my job - is my job - to try and distract you by babbling about nifty and possibly irrelevant things.

I’m officially working from home, cooking more, cleaning more, and watching an awful lot of Tik-Tok videos, each of which speak tragic volumes about the state of our species … Sleep is both a relief and an act of retreat. I can’t write as frequently for obvious reasons; Tottenham aren’t on the telly as much, and all the big movies are getting pushed back, and generally the world’s just too busy figuring stuff out. But I’m also wondering, like you are, if this is some kind of fucked-up, mandatory opportunity to remake myself as a human being. To sweat different details than the ones I do now. To hug people more, once we’re medically in the clear to do so. To just say yes to shit, you know?

I think we’re playing a soccer game, and we’re 2-nil down to United, yes United, in the biggest game of our lives. But we’ve got Harry Kane - hell, we’ve got Steven Gerrard in his prime. We’ll pluck an equaliser out our arses in the 70th minute, a leveller in stoppage time, and we’ll beat this thing. And we’ll be better people; we’ll hopefully take less selfies, find less twisted joy in trolling one another, and maybe we’ll learn to share what little, or what bounty, we have.

Keep refreshing the page. I’m going to be doubly receptive to anyone that’s got a story to tell - fictional or not - and every now and then I might just hit you with a random rant about Tottenham Hotspur shooting up my blood pressure - even in a world (currently) without Tottenham Hotspur. I love you all and I’m rooting for you, and for everyone you plan to hug carelessly in a couple months. It’s going to be awesome, amazing, and maybe even a little annoying.

The Editor and ting.
